I’ve only been north of 66 degrees once before and I would have to agree with the tag line ‘where the good stuff is’.  As for the restaurant, I’ve been there and I think they are full of shit.

Several years ago Darrell Finlayson and I went to Baffin Island with Eric Johnson and Chris Hilliard to explore fjords, kite on frozen sea ice and ski steep chutes. We were just inside the Arctic Circle. It was like a vacation to my home planet. In fact it may have just been a dream. I’VE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF ANYTHING ELSE LIKE IT! Miles of frozen sea water separating hulking rock faces that hide steep cut colouirs.

Below is the 3600ft Polar Star Couloir. One of the Baffin classics.

This May I’ll be on a similar spring break with friends and Mountain Hardwear athletes Andrew McLean and Kip Garre. We’ll be exploring the Norwegian island of Svalbard for steep lines in similar terrain as that of Baffin Island. It appears this is as far north as one can ski steep terrain on this planet.

The trip is split into two twelve day adventures. First off we’ll be camping in and around Dickson Land. Next up, we’ll board a 65ft sailboat to cover even more territory thanks to Doug Stoup and Ice Axe Adventures.

We leave in a week so there’s tons of packing and preparing to do!

A huge thanks to Mountain Hardwear and Backcountry.com for making this one happen! Click on the banner below to find all the gear you need to play outside.
