Some very unexpected and upsetting news last week. Kip Garre died in an avalanche with Allison Kreutzen while they were on a day trip to ski Split Mountain in the High Sierra.

I spent a few days with Kip waiting out poor weather playing Scrabble in a tent on Mt Foraker a few years ago. You get to know a good amount about a man in that short of time under those circumstances. I enjoyed Kip’s quiet and confident way and we talked about skiing together in the future.

Kip was very enthusiastic about our upcoming trip to Norway and I’m hoping he’ll pay us a visit so we’ll get the chance to make turns together. His ‘career’ as a Skier is very impressive, but what’s more inspiring to me is how much everyone who knew him enjoyed his company and always comments on his humility and sincerity as a person. Thanks for the inspiration Kip!

Here is a nice VIDEO the folks at Warren Miller put together-

Death is a new beginning not the end.
