The following day was stormy with a bit of fresh snow. Pat had to bail, so Beau, KT, Josh and I drove into Yellowstone Park for more chute skiing on the backside of Barronette. Our original plan didn’t look so promising, so we dropped this mini gem on our way to……

……….this!

Another deep dark crotch of the gods.

3-P1050177

That’s not the real name, but it felt really gothic and eerie.

Transition party and everybody is invited. Bring your own platform.

Beau got this great shot of Josh charging on his BC Chargers!

The wind and snow increased sending huge spindrift-alanches down the gut and off the rocks into the choke. Josh isn’t afraid. Time to get out of this douche funnel though.

The next day Beau wanted to go big and check out a major peak that he’d never been on. I get the feeling that doesn’t happen often for Beau. He’s skied so much out here that it’s truly incredible. And there is a lot of incredible stuff to ski out here! We took the sleds back up to Goose Lake, parked them and headed into the high country.

We topped out on top of a massive couloir on an unnamed peak, but opted out since it looked wind loaded and we didn’t have enough rope to give it a proper cleaning out on belay.

The consolation prize was about 2,500ft of really good mellow powder.

But, then we had to climb back up 2K to get to the base of this couloir off Courthouse Peak.

The upper section looked like it could be soft, loose, rocky and steep so we opted to look into it from the top. This took a little circuitous navigation. Courthouse in the background, the chute is in between the two rocky points.

And just about ready to enter what we termed “The Gavel”.

She was indeed a steep one, but the snow was IDEAL!

Beau gets virgin turns on what he believed was a virgin line.

It was a long way to travel, but we covered some incredible terrain on a beautiful blue bird day and ended up making some sort of crazy figure 8 traverse. All smiles from Beau and Josh at the base.

Then it was heads down and back to the barn.

The weather started coming back in and we made it to town just before dark. A fine day in the hills and the perfect way to wrap up the short visit. I’ve been badly bitten by the Beartooth’s and I’ll be back. Thanks again to Beau and KT for the hospitality! Keep crushing you lucky bastards.
