Got stuck in town longer than I’d hoped this morning, but still got out for this quicky in the afternoon.

A summer or two ago Jason Dorais and I traversed the Reed and Benson Ridge in BCC. Even though it was hot and dry, we kept peering down possible chutes and imagining them filled in with snow. I’m sure anybody touring in the lower Cardiff area has stared across the valley and pieced some of these lines together. Most of them look to require rappels and or tons of snow to really make them go. This weekend I was in the neighborhood and noticed that there was a potentially continuous line down canyon from “Benson and Hedges”.  I’m sure it’s been skied before, but any of you Wasatch tweekers and chute seekers have a name for this? In keeping with the cigarette theme, Virginia Slims could work if there’s nothing already out there.

Reed and Benson Ridge

It’s a pretty fun little sleeper if you’re in the hood and links up nicely with Benson and Hedges. The entry looks less promising than it is. A bit rocky right now, but I’m sure it fills in better later in the year. Once you drop in, head out skiers left onto the ridge you can avoid a small rock cliff and then cut back right and drop into the chute.

GoPro shots make everything look steeper than they are. The chute is a pleasant 40ish degrees with plenty of room for turns.

Trying hard to keep skiing “new to me” stuff in the backyard. Plenty of fun things still on the list!
